You should be able to fit three fire belly toads in either of those tanks. Fire belly toads make a surprisingly loud barking sound, so you may not want to keep the tank in your bedroom. Have a combination of land and water. Depending on your water source, you may need to use a water conditioner. Definitely have a secure lid. I've seen them climb to the top of the tank's glass walls many times. My toads are willing to only eat one appropriately sized cricket every two or three days. I've tried phoenix worms and mealworms, but they don't seem to like them.

Thanks for the reply. I think I will use the plastic tank thing for now. What type of live plants and Moses can I keep with them?

How do you sex them?

If I buy them online what place do you reccomend?

My green fire bellies took aquatic fly larvae (both D. hydei and Psychodidae really do have larvae that can swim),small slugs, large ant larvae,a few sowbugs, and suitably sized cockroaches.

If fire bellied toads have anything in common with Pacific Tree Frogs or American Bull Frogs, you would sex male frogs because they have larger ear drums, males are smaller, and their vocal sacs are yellowed.
If not, general rule is that male toads are smaller, they have rougher skin than females, and they have little pads on their hands during mating season.
Also extreme frog/toad sexing rule is that males 'ribbit' or 'bark'.

The setup I liked best was a 50/50 with a gravel slope that allowed the toads to go to whatever depth of water they preferred. The tank may be too small, but I recommend dwarf waterlily bulbs, since the toads enjoy perching on lily pads.

You sex them by figuring out which toad is on top when they go at it all night and keep you up with their mating calls. I kept mine by my bedroom as a kid and they spent every night mating and chirping nonstop. It's actually a nice sound, when you're not trying to sleep.

I put some kind of "reptigrass" seeds in the land side of their tank and it grew like crazy. I figured the toads would just like hiding in it, but they actually ate the stuff! I've only seen a few mentions of the tadpoles being omnivorous, but nothing about the adults. I kept my toads pretty well fed, so I doubt it was malnourishment that drove them to grazing. Someone on Plantedtank suggested they might have been after some sort of microfauna on the grass.

I have no idea if anyone else has noticed this, but I always found that the plants in my firebelly tank grew much faster than anything in my other herp tanks. My (completely untested) theory is that the toads' toxins had some kind of antifungal effect or something that helped the plants.

I always just dropped a few crickets in every day. they will eat most anything. and i kept mine in a 20 gallon long. i had it set up as a 50/50 with the water about 5 inches deep. they are pretty easy to take care of aslong as you feed them and provide them with plenty of water.

I've heard that they're communal. They actually do better in small groups than on their own.
