Hi everyone.
Just a question for the United Kingdom members of this site. At the moment in Northern Ireland there is no law about keeping exotic animals as pets. However as far as I know, there will be a new law introduced next month. It will be very similar to the dangerous wild animals act that is in place in the rest of the UK.
Can the UK members on this site tell me what scorpions are legal, and which are not. Obviously you won’t be able to list them all, but a rough idea would be nice. I downloaded the dangerous wild animals act for Northern Ireland, and it only lists Buthid scorpions as being illegal. However I spoke to the local exotic pet store, and they said that the list would be added to, and that the list would be endless with species. He said it will be very hard for me to get any scorpions apart from Emperors.
As Northern Ireland is part of the UK, I suspect the law here will be very similar to that in the rest of the UK. What is the current situation in the rest of the UK?
Also if there is anyone on the site from Northern Ireland who could shed a bit more light, I would be very grateful.
I am absolutely petrified incase I can’t keep scorpions anymore. I would be gutted. Please tell me that it is only Buthids, because I wouldn’t be keeping them anyway. You will be able to apply for a licence, but God knows what you will need to go through in order to be issued with one.
