I have a young female Cyclura cornuta who has been just the sweetest thing in the world up til now. Recently, within the past 2 weeks, she has gotten a bit grumpy. She has started biting the hand that feeds her, but only during feedings. Any other time she is sweet and wanting to be held. Is this normal? I feed her daily, giving her a huge variety of veggies and fruits. infact i think i might be over feeding her as there is always left over food from the previous feeding.

I am at a loss as to why she has started acting this way... any ideas as to why she does this now?

are you sure she is not a he?

males of this species get more aggressive during breeding time. also, how old is the animal?

i hear at the two year mark they go though changes. they start to reach sexual maturity and that affects their moods. usually this makes them tamer for some reason. i just picked up a trio of yearlings and was told to not even try and tame them down until after this mark by the breeder. he has two that are so tame that is girlfriend dresses them up for holidays. give her sometime. maybe she will come around in a few months.

This is the phase where all the horomons kick in. She may get abit more agressive as she goes, so dont use your fingers to feed her - place the food on a plate and leave the room, because theres no need to agiate the reptile further. Even females can be territorial over their things if they think you're gonna take it away from them, or just be macho.

Make sure you let her out for excersize, etc. if you're worried you're overfeeding. But I dont think you need to worry about that for awhile since shes still growing.

She gets fed from a dish and we do leave her alone right after dropping off her food. She is only aggressive when there is food.

haha! i took this

She has started biting the hand that feeds her,
as a literal happening, my apologies. lol

If its only around food I find that pretty normal, I had iguanas who would sprint from the other side of the room and charge at you if they saw green.

These are wild animals so dont expect them to behave like puppies. :)

I just found it odd that she has suddenly started doing this. But i guess from what i have been reading she is hitting the age where, like all kids, she is getting grumpy and hard to handle.

You just have a normal iguana on your hands. My green iguana was always psycho but once she hit the three year mark, she started trying to chase me whenever I opened the cage door, mouth open and very angry. {D
