Hi
Sorry if these questions seem dumb, but I don't know too much about true spiders. I am just starting to get into them.
I found a rabid wolf spider at my work about a week ago.
I noticed it had the boxing gloves that you usually see in mature male tarantulas. Does this mean that the one I have is a mature male?
Also what type of setup can I use for them?
What is the sceintific name for a rabid wolf spider?
I live in Canada, are these common here or did it come in with something?
I work in a grocery store by the way so I've seen all sorts of spiders come in with produce.
thanks for any help

the scientific name is Rabidosa rabida and yes it sounds like you have a mature male...i'm not sure if they're native to canada or not but i know they're all over southeastern louisiana where i live...

i've kept a few as pets and generally i use a warm moist setup for them...either coconut fiber or potting soil that i keep semi-hydrated and a bottle cap for a water tray...also a small teracotta pot broken in half for a hide...in my experience these do pretty well in captivity and have a descent appetite...although if you have a mature male he may not eat at all and may die pretty soon...but it can't hurt to try:)...offer some small crickets after you get it set up and see what he does:)

good luck!
