Question about insect enclosure

I'm getting a free 40 gal from my friend who's brother's beardie died and I don't really have any current animals to put in there...I kinda want to keep some bugs? So I have some questions.

1. Can I catch and keep wild caught insects from my yard?

2. If so, what types of insects are the easiest to keep?

4. What species can I keep together?
For example, can have some millipedes, some jumping spiders, some isopods and some beetles all in one tank?

5. Is a 40 gal generally just too big? Or is it ok if I've got clutter and accessories and not just open space?

6. Would I need live plants?
I don't necessarily want it to be self sustaining or bio active but I do want it to house insects but so far all I can find on insect enclosures is bioactive stuff.

Literally any tips would be great, thanks!
