Hi,

So I just began getting into the hobby and can’t find too much info on the medical significance of (Asian, American etc) giant centipede bites. From this forum I know they cause extreme pain and possibly other symptoms. But I can’t find any information on hospital visits or severe medical complications caused by these pedes. I don’t plan to handle my centipedes, but I’m going to move to an apartment in California next year and am uncomfortable having to explain to a landlord “yes, some of my animals are medically significant. But I have no idea if they’ll cause serious complications or not!” I would like to keep giant centipedes, but don’t want to purchase them and then have to get rid of them in a year. So any info on the symptoms of the bites from these guys would be helpful.

I also can’t find much on the legality of giant centipedes in California. Does anyone know where I could find that?

thank you!

It’s called ‘search function’ and it looks pretty much like this:

also there is sub forum solely dedicated to ‘biting report’ too, and that link is right down below.

As far as I know there are no regulated Chilopoda in California. As to the landlord, if you can, it might be wise to have it on a "Need to know" basis, and so long as you don't let any of your specimens escape, the landlord doesn't necessarily need to know.

What part of California are you moving to if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks,

No that's fine. I was just curious because I am in SoCal and am always looking for fellow local enthusiasts, ha ha.

Thanks,
