Its been a while since I've posted some pics since I no longer have the internet. But anyways, I'm here at the office wasting my time and thought you guys might enjoy these. The first ones are of a male Ummidia species. In july we were finding upwards of a dozen crossing the roads. I brought a few to the nature center where i work. The kids got a huge kick out of these guys, especially when they would rear up with venom dripping from their fangs. And yes holding this guy in my hand was a little hairy. He kept slapping his hangs on my hand but not biting.
Ok and now onto my favorite find of the year. I caught this purseweb in late winter. I believe it is Sphodros niger. Its burrow was in a moss bank that was just about vertical. Its tube was attached to the moss above it. It was awesome. The burrow was about 11cm long. THe spider was immature and I kept it for several months. It made a nice little tube and never turned down a meal. I was hoping it was a female but I woke up one day to find this little beastie crawling around. So I snapped a few picks and let him go (after I used him for a program
). I have some neat pics of him right after i caught him as well as his tube. Anyways, sorry the pics aren't the best, but enjoy.
When I get a chance I'll post some pics of the purseweb before he molted and some pics of the two Myrmekiaphila fluviatilis that I caught last week (an adult female and a lil' sling
). Till next time I get a chance to waste some time while I'm at work, Peace.
Bobby
