Purpose of the 2 small spike-looking things on the end of a superworms tail?

Sometimes I can notice these 2 little spikes (or at least they look like spikes) on the end of superworm tails. I can't figure out the purpose.

Combat. If you look closely, you'll see that one is slightly curved....that's to grip the shield.

if you mean the little things that come out underneath them near the tip of their abdomen, i'm pretty sure they're basically an extra set of legs! i think they help them climb? i remember seeing them a lot when i kept superworms, specifically when i would pick one up it would freak out and flail the legs at me lol, they would chill out as soon as those prolegs were able to grab onto something though (if that ever were to happen before they met a terrible end at the hands (claws?) of my vinegaroon)
