I'm thinking of purchasing one of these I found at a pet store. It's just labeled as "baboon" for $20 and about 3-4". I haven't been able to find much info on these guys so are they fairly rare or unavailable? I found some info on how to care for it and that it's more active than the murinus but I just need some opinions and/or advice about them from those who own them already.

Well there are about as defensive as murinus. Except these one's like to burrow I hardly see mine but did see her out of her burrow last night as I stoped up late.

I keep her in a dry enclosure with a big water bowl. She is in a bout 6 inches of dirt for burrowing.

I plan to mate her as soon as a male becomes available

I beleve the common name is Fort hall baboon

I don't know about them being rare but. Actually come to think I havent seen any for sale for a while.

To be honest I think murinus are more active as I said I never see the P lugardi.

But it's a nice T to have in your collection I say go for it.

I Will say that there isn't much info out there that I have seen but here is a like to my care sheet i put this togetehr out of my own experiences and oinfo from a few other breeders who ere king enough to shower me with wisdom

I have had my P.lugardi for about 4 years now. I love her but she is always hiding, and when she does come out for a visit she is mean as hell, lol!

Are you talking about the baboon at Dave's?
Yup that's the one. I'm very sure that's what it is, a P lugardi. One of the guys there went to look up exactly what kind it was but came back saying it was a Poec. of some sort. I don't think so! Definitely not an arboreal. Dave said it's been there since he opened his store, a little over a year.

It sounds like I'd have another pet that I can never see unless I dig it up so maybe I won't get it after all. I already have one that never come's out all the way except after midnight and even then it's just the legs  I don't know, maybe I'll trade him a few feeder roaches for it :)

I thought it was a P. lugardi too, but I seen a pic of a P.murinus( gray) morph, and it looked alot like it. The pics I have seen of the P. lugardi seem to have yellowish color to them and the baboon at daves looks plain old gray with black specs and black tiger stripes on the abdomen........ but it's kind of dark at daves so maybe with better lighting it would look more like a P. lugardi?

It's definitely a P. lugardi. I'm sure of it. The P.murinus is fuzzier and the one at Dave's isn't very hairy on the legs. It looks just like the photos above from G_Wright(thanks for posting those BTW :) )

Well goodluck with it ( if you get it). It needs alot of love and affection, so give it hugs and kisses. I checked him/her out back when dave first opened his store, and it was always puckered up to give me a kiss :) You might want to talk him down because it used to be $15, but after dave switched the T's to new deli cups he raised the price to $20. I wanted to get it about 2weeks ago but It looks like it is an adult, so I got one of the Usambara's. Ask him to see the King Baboon Sling, and tell him to WATER my Suntiger behind the counter too!!!

Mouse...if you are looking at a king baboon dont expect to see it....they dig very deep burrows and tend not to come out very often...( and yes they do hiss ) they are a great looking spider but are very very very slow growers and are very reclusive...

Regards, Mike

I'm pretty sure that one he's got listed as Emerald skeleton is not an Emerald skeleton. I tried to get a better look at it but it won't stretch out enough to see it.
Hey, I didn't know he has your suntiger behind the counter. What is it doing there instead of on sale? Is he keeping it for his own collection?

So When are you going to get it????? I saw it monday, and it looked so lonely. I am surprised that it is still alive, with the way dave takes care of the T's in his store. The only thing that kept it alive is that it isn't moisture dependent. Why don't I get it??? well I considerd it but I want to get another usambara in the near future to breed with the one I already have, and if that doesn't go through I will get another GBB. So go get it but talk dave down, he will do it because If he doesn't sell it to you, he knows it will sit in his store for another 6 months.

I don't know if I want to get that Baboon anyway, I plan on going to the show in KC this Sunday if I'm not scheduled to work but I don't know yet. I'd much rather get a couple of Ts there so I'll know exactly what I'm getting. Plus, I'll know it's from a breeder and not a WC T.

I bought one just a month ago . First we were think'n it was a Harpactira trigina. But we were wrong . She is a really nice lugardi.
G_Wright , your pictures show me even more confidence that I'm having a lugardi instead of a H.trigina.
thanks for your pix's . they're really worth a compliment ! ;)
