Provent-A-Mite™
Provent-a-Mite™ kills mites and ticks that feed on reptiles

Provent-a-Mite™ is the only patented, Federally approved product that has undergone more than 14 years of research and clinical testing to insure that it will effectively eradicate mites and ticks that feed on reptiles and will not harm the host being treated when used as directed. No other product can make these claims!
Provent-a-Mite™ is also the only product that can be used preventatively. Simply treat substrate, racks, enclosure openings, etc. once a month as directed to kill any disease carrying mites or ticks before they can become a problem.
No other product is more effective and easier to use than
Provent-a-Mite™.

Just curious. Has anyone used this product in a T housing before? It's for herps but seems pretty cool but I don't want to try it unless it will be safe for Ts.

ummm....you might want to do a little more searching:

"WARNING: Do not allow reptile to breath vapors. Do not apply to heating devices or heating device covers. Do not use Provent-A-Mite within the vicinity of any arachnids or amphibians. Provent-A-Mite will kill any feed insects introduced into a treated enclosure at least 2 weeks. Treat or feed any carnivorous reptiles in a seperate cage. Provent-A-Mite & it's vapors will kill spiders and insects."

Kinda makes sense when you think about it.

Yeah, I didn't research it....Just came across it. Seemed interesting. Wasn't gonna go buy it tomorrow or anything. Just looking for opinions. Thanks for the input.

provent-a-death

I have used that stuff several times on my reptiles (mainly on wholesale lizards) with outstanding results!!! ..
But get this...There is a lice treatment commenly used for humans that is made up of the same stuff! I will find out the name for whoever is interested! Read the lables..They will prove the ingredients are the same .. I have never used the lice spray myself but have many friends who have. They same it has the same effects as provent-a-mite. If not better. Email for me for any more info on this subject...

As far as the affects on T's....KEEP THEM FAR FAR AWAY FROM THAT STUFF!!! I had tarantulas die that where near the treated cages,,,I learned real quick!! if you have crickets in the cage when it is treated they will die in a matter of secounds..They acted the same way the spiders did when exposed to that stuff. The tarantulas will undoutibly suffer the same fait! Makes sense don't it.... I watched the tarantulas run AND jump around the cage seeming to be in a state of panic only about half an hour after i put the treated cages in the room. About another half hour later they were dead..... This should have been a clear message to my self....Provent a mite....Also provents a spider...from thriving!!

I know i wish just as much as you all do that this "pesticide" was safe for inverts...i geuss thats the next step for the researchers that made this stuff....

So everybody beware...and prevent-a-death...

Won't happen. Pesticides are "safe" around vertebrates because our nervous systems are somewhat different. We have myelinated nerve fibers and different populations of receptors. Most broad spectrum pesticides target the slightly different invert nervous system and they'll kill just about everything that hasn't previously built up resistance in the population. Other pesticides operate by targeting chitin synthesis which prevents them from maturing, moulting, and breeding, but again that's going to affect mites the same as tarantulas. In short, since mites and Ts are both arachnids with similar physiology, anything which kills one will almost certainly kill the other.
