My brother in law may have some access to some slings. Does anyone know what they usually sell for out of the sac?

You should probably try posting this on the True spider forum.
Might get more replies.:)

ditto. But honestly, I don't know. Try skimming places that might have them, then f you find a few places compare, and then you can take your pick.

there can be high mortality rate with them, so try not to pay adult prices for fresh babies.

Not much, honestly. I have some just recently hatched out as well. Not sure what to do, lol.

Adult females go from $6 (wild caught) to $12 (CB). They make many sacs and thousands of babies, so the slings SHOULD be pretty cheap.

western widows, L. hesperus, usually go for free. when they start breeding they don't stop so most people that have them usually try to get rid of as many as they can as soon as they can...

Most widows are given away or traded amongst enthusiasts...there's no mass market for them.

I don't know, if you look, you can find plenty for sale.

Yes, I got many of mine for free, but that doesn't mean there's no mass market for them. I also bought some of mine, and will probably buy more at some point.

Of course "mass market" is a relative term and the widow market certainly lacks much "mass"!:D

Actually, I take that back. I had ht pleasure of meeting someone from this board in person the other day and she works for a pharmaceutical company that buys about 1,000 widows at a time to produce antivenom.

So I guess there is a mass market.
I get what you're saying as I've purchased many widows myself, but I guess I have a hard time putting a "value" on them. One of the things that most attracted me to keeping widows is that they are readily available through like-mined hobbyists who are willing to trade or send you a sac or some slings...

Yeah, it's great that we have this neat little arachnid sub-community that seems to be willing to help each other out and spread the love!

slings are of no value for anti venom production though...you could grow em up for half a year then sell them. I use to sell 1/2 grown hesperus, normal and all black, for $4 cdn.
