Potential Python or Boa

Okay guys, I need your help. Bare with me. I'm working out of town, and a coworker is bringing in what they think may be a python or boa egg. The egg was near a rotting tree stump close to her house. She said it's about the size of a chicken egg, but there's no livestock in the area. A neighbor apparently had several animals, some of which were pythons and boas. For whatever reason, most of the neighbor's animals were removed, but some of the snakes escaped.

I haven't seen the egg yet, and have no clue as to whether it's viable. I plan to inspect it when I get it, but I do tarantulas, and haven't had the opportunity to get into snakes (until just now). My local pet store back in Nashville can help me ID it, but I need a game plan to make sure the egg makes it back there in one piece.

I would dearly love to *try* hatch it on my own, even if the chances are slim to none. I have no idea what happened to the rest of the clutch. Considering all I know about is the one, I have douts that it's vaible, but who knows, I may be surprised.

If the egg appears in good shape, I'm picking up some Vermiculite and Perlite after work. I can maintain the temps and humidity okay, but what other care concerns should I address? How can I best evaluate the condition of the egg when I get it (and whether it's fertile or a slug)?

Thanks in advance,

Ben

you have the right idea with the vermiculite, but fungus is always a possibiltity.
Me thinks you might hatch a pheasent:razz: lol

If its a bird it wont hatch, if its a reptile mark it with an "x" on top and do not roll it.
However, candle it and if you see blood vessels its potentially viable

LOL - that is a very real possibility!! I've considered that it may be some odd bird's egg, but I'd rather try and be disappointed than not try at all! I'll add more details when I actually see the egg =)
