Okay guys, I need your help. Bare with me. I'm working out of town, and a coworker is bringing in what they think may be a python or boa egg. The egg was near a rotting tree stump close to her house. She said it's about the size of a chicken egg, but there's no livestock in the area. A neighbor apparently had several animals, some of which were pythons and boas. For whatever reason, most of the neighbor's animals were removed, but some of the snakes escaped.
I haven't seen the egg yet, and have no clue as to whether it's viable. I plan to inspect it when I get it, but I do tarantulas, and haven't had the opportunity to get into snakes (until just now). My local pet store back in Nashville can help me ID it, but I need a game plan to make sure the egg makes it back there in one piece.
I would dearly love to *try* hatch it on my own, even if the chances are slim to none. I have no idea what happened to the rest of the clutch. Considering all I know about is the one, I have douts that it's vaible, but who knows, I may be surprised.
If the egg appears in good shape, I'm picking up some Vermiculite and Perlite after work. I can maintain the temps and humidity okay, but what other care concerns should I address? How can I best evaluate the condition of the egg when I get it (and whether it's fertile or a slug)?
Thanks in advance,
Ben
