this is about 1 1/2 weeks after a molt, she didn't grow much, maybe 1/4" but it was enough that she got a new home

Not true here. Ours was about an inch when we got her, and now is 2 1/4 inches and getting ready to moult again. We got her in December of 2005. I wouldn't say that is slow. She is so sweet!! She is also a little bulldozer, she pushes all of her substrate into a pile in the middle of her house and webs it in place.
