Holy cow that's with just a camera? :eek:

I think where you placed arrows is where the spermatheca would be, but I thought that pokies had one solid arch.:? Or do some of the pokies not have that? :confused:

Here is my Ornata, and the Rufilata and Formosa look the same to. I really am not sure about the Subfusca though. Thats' an awesome picture. My Subfusca are getting close to sexable. Two are almost 2" the other two are smaller maybe 1.5.

Yeah, my ornata is the same way, but my P.met has two and i just checked.
Hopefully, this one is a female, that will mean i have 1 female, 2 possible male, and one still unsexed. :}

Yes that would be a great thing, I always get stuck all male or all female.

I know there has to be somewhere we can read about spermatheca and which species are fused and which ones are not.

Anyone know a link?

So, Poecilotheria's only have one fused spermatheca?
That's odd, looks like there's two with my P.met.

Here's one off an old molt, which measures around 5",

Lol looks like two to me........ now you really got me wondering. Is it all pokies or just some? Guess we will have to wait for someone else to chime in. I wonder what the odds of them having malformed spermatheca are? I am not saying that is the case here, but I wonder if it happens at all.

P. metallica, P. miranda and P. tigrinawesseli all have bilobed (two "peaks") and fused (connected at the base) spermathecae, as opposed to the remaining Poecilotheria which have unilobed (one "peak) spermathecae. It is not unlikely that they start with bilobed spermatheca as this is a plesiomorph state, which then will fuse to become the typical triangular spermatheca with increasing maturity (ontogenesis). On the other hand what you are seeing could just as well be the male accesory organs that in small slings can be mistaken for a budding spermatheca.

You will have to wait to be sure ;-)

Thanks, now i am even more confused, why did i not see this in the other two molts? Well, I've searched though AB and didn't find a single pic of a P.subfusca spermathecae. But, i did get some help from Jacobi and it appears they are fused, single flap. Though, what would it look like in early development, does anyone know?
