Around these parts unwanted dogs and cats are left at the local temples for the monks to take care of. At one temple, over the course of about 1 month, the abbot noticed the population of dogs and cats was rapidly diminishing. He estimated that there were about 20 to start with. He became alarmed when there was only one dog and one cat remaining and he kept a close eye on them.
Yesterday morning he came out to find both animals were missing. He called in the local villagers who conducted a search. They found a python in a drainage ditch. It took about 20 people to catch and restrain the animal.
The python: 5.8 meters long, 76cm around (probably about where the last dog was) and over 200 kilograms.
The snake will either be released into deep jungle or turned over to a zoo. My suggestion that it should just be moved to the next temple was not met with enthusiasm.
