POLL: Favorite genera for tarantulas that "display"(color, you see them, active, feed frequently, etc.)

Type in the genus that you think "displays" well. No, this isn't always the most beautiful, but color/pattern does contribute to your opinion. Along with beauty, which genus is most active, feed frequently, and is a genus that you really enjoy because of these factors).

In the poll are some of the genera most associated with these characteristics. Arguably, Brachypelma spp. stay in burrows a lot and not feed during winter months and Poecilotheria spp. don't like bright light and like to hide in holes in trees.

Where is Nhandu in the list?

I’m also a fan of the Tlitocatl genus. My most stunning T is my M Balfouri

Of these options it'd be brachypelma for me, colorful & mine are out a lot during the day, none really use burrows that much & are all good eaters. My real choice tho would be Grammostola, I'm pretty sure most of mine don't even know they have hides lol, & of them only the rose hairs are poor eaters.

I want to say Poeciletheria but Pamphobeteus and Phormictopus are stunning in their own ways. Poeciletheria just on patterns, movements and the way they present themselves. You'll never need a filter for a pokie that's for sure

I only have B.Hamoorii but apart from the first month in hiding as a sling it has been chilling out in the open showing all kinds of interesting behaviours just over the short span of a couple of months. Can recommend :)

One factor in this poll is the genus needs to be "active" tarantulas. I really don't consider Brachypelma very active especially during winter months. Also, this poll appears to be influenced by popularity or commonly kept species or own beauty alone. The poll should identify in the hobby the best overall "display" tarantula that doesn't have to be popular or commonly kept and doesn't get a vote on beauty alone, its the genus that is the most likely to see in it's enclosure moving, eating, and looking good.

Any tarantula can be active if you don't give it what it needs to feel comfortable. Just the same, any tarantula can be a display species if you provide it with small enough caging to where it doesn't feel the need to hide itself.

True, but when those requirements are met, there is a difference in tarantulas that display well in captivity and others very poorly. For example, the beautiful Cyriopagopus lividus needs a deep substrate to burrow in. Once given, good luck seeing that species except at 3:30 a.m. with it's legs just barely out of its burrow. So, C. lividus is not a good display species and the genus as a whole displays poorly.

There was no sericopelma or grammostola so went pamphobeteus and of course acanthoscurria 😆 both out alot both stunning, although not massively active.
That's why my first choices would have been sericopelma and grammostola. They are not only beautiful and out alot but they are super active or mine are, constantly burrowing and rearranging their enclosures. Both are skittish as slings ( like all genus) but once they put on size they don't care won't move unless they want to n even as slings eat like pigs. If you do your research (like you are supposed to before getting any animal) there is no reason they couldn't make great starter t's.

Of all my tarantulas my female Phormictopus sp. full green is out and about the most during the day, 90% of the time. I adore her.

My P Regalis is my most active and out on display T, He is generally wandering around unless he's holed up in his hide for a molt. I can catch my OBT and Cobalt out and about in the mornings sometimes too.

Poecilotheria because it was on the list. aphonopelma though is probably my fave, Comes in cool colors ( bicoloratum, mooreae), cool fades sp Diamond Back, Blacks (steindachneri and others) Tans (moderatum, chalcodes, etc...) Browns, and stripes (seamani) so probably
one of the most complete genus for variation. Pokies are beautiful but the majority are quite similar with rufilata, ornata, subfusca, metallica being the major outliers.
