The other day I watched my B.smithi Tom eat a locust. If you look closely, you can see a locust abdomen expanding and contracting which I supose is them breathing. When Tom ate a locust it took around five minutes for the locust to stop breathing.

This evening I put a locust in With my P.regalis, Jerry. He took it and sunk his fangs in straight away. The locust stopped breathing less than thirty seconds later. Bearing in mind that Tom is around 4.5 inches and Jerry is closer to 2 inches, I think we can see why Pokies have the fearsome reputation they do.

Heh, gotta love them Pokies though:D

Here's another shot of him. Check out the size of that locust, it's as big as he is!

yeah we loved our OW species. We have a baby on the way and at this juncture the OW's wouldn't be prudent. We had a whole room for our T's but that is a nursery now. Anyhow real nice pic. Can't wait to get more when we have the room.

I think they get the band when they get more mature.

Ive seen a Lasiodora kill a cricket faster then a Phoneutria, it doesnt mean that the Lasiodora got more potent venom for humans (or insects)
It simply depends alot on how the fangs are penetrated into the prey.

It is rather cool watching different species react in different ways to prey. Out of all my Ts , Id have to say my Green Bottle is the most aggressive attacker . Even faster than my Cobalt.

Dosen't look like a regalis to me either.
P. regalis dosen't have the redish-purple color and they have bright yellow coloring on the under side of their legs.

Are you sure that's a locust? It looks more like a grasshopper to me. Even so, it looks too pretty to end up as spider food (at least the one in the 2nd pic does).

Nice-looking spiders though. :)

I'm pretty sure it is a regalis. I got it from a friend as a spiderling and now it is about 2.5" long. He has got a lot of growing to do still, but I can see the yellow starting to come through on his legs now:)

At that size my regalis didn't have the cream colored band nor the yellow on the underside of the leg. If you look closely at the underside pic you can see a bit of a band appear, with the next molts the yellow and the band will become apparent. So yes, I think it's a regalis indeed.
greetz,
