I received this scorp about a year ago from the local animal shelter. They knew I was into these guys and asked if I wanted it and 2 tarantulas that they recently received from a raid. I have not been able to ID this guy yet. He has not molted yet so I have not been able to get a close look at the details of his body. Here is a couple pix of him. If you guys can help, that would be great. We are thinking Israli deathstalker, but we're not sure.

I'm no expert in identifying species, but this looks to be a buthidae of some sort... . (Please jump in and correct me if I'm wrong guys/girls) Even if I'm right, this is not much help. There are several buthidae species.

I'd recomend finding someone in your area that might be able to identify this specimen. I know that the U.S. armed forces have people who are good at such things. Allso most collages that have a good zoology department might have, or know someone who might be able to help you.

The most important thing when dealing with unidentified species is to treat them with respect, and not do anything reckless. (Such as having them crawl on your hand, or trying to cathc them with your hands.)

Now that I know what it is, how do I tell which it is (male/female). I'm just curious to know. I'm looking to possibly sell/trade it off and would like to know whether it's a male or female.

Your thread makes me wish there were more illegal shipments and more people that didn't take care of their animals, and that there were more animal shelters I could go to to pick these animals up so I could bring them home and take better care of them. I don't think there are any shelters that would take care of inverts around here.

The moisture is from fresh bedding placed in a new cage. I've now got it good and dried out.
