I bought these 5 individuals as "Mexican tailless whip scorpions" from a pet store a while back. I don't know exactly when but it was over a year ago. All 5 have molted at least twice and are doing great and I've finally decided to try and get a proper ID. I'm pretty sure they are a Phrynus species but after that I'm not sure. Anyways here they are and as always any help would be appreciated. As a bonus any reasonable guesses (no pedipalp length) as to sex would also be welcome although I know I should, at the very least, have clear pictures of the ventral side. Eventually I'd like to sex them and try to breed them but first things first.

A Google image search showed many examples, far too many for a non-hobbiest such as myself to follow up on but this link may be useful:

Old news, I know, but still...

These are all Phrynus maesi, a fairly common species coming in from Nicaragua recently. Luckily this species is very dimorphic at full maturity(males are much darker and lankier) but your animals aren’t quite there yet. If I had to make an educated guess, #2 at least appears male to me.

You can also take ventral shots and sex them easily that way. A comparison should make it very clear.

Thank you. I thought they were probably maesi but now I know. I've tried looking at the ventral surface but honestly I can't see any difference. At least not like the difference I see with my D. Diadema. I'll try to get some good shots.
