Hello,
A friend of mine at work brought this awesome nursery web spider in for me today.im wondering if this is possibly a dif color form of Pisaurina mira?
anyways heres the shots

any possiblity of it being gravid...cuz it sure looks preggers to me!

I think I have a pic of something very similar to that in a book somewhere... lemme check and see if it can get you any closer to a species ID.

yeah you rarely see abdomens like that on wc spiders unless they are going to pop....they are rarely overfed lol

i think theres a few colorforms of p.mira.possibly this is one?
heres one i found a couple years ago

Here's a pic I found on http://bugguide.net I'm not sure that their IDs are always accurate... it seems like a hobbyist site for folks who like to ID bugs in general...

It looks like your spider to me... but who really can give a species ID based on a photo? Do you know their range, or anything like that, or what other Pisauridae are in your area?

It sounds more like you are describing some of the threads on the insect and spider forums on this site...

The majority of ID's at BG are accurate for the taxonomic level at which they are placed, ranging from infraorder to species. Otherwise, it would not be so successful and there would not be numerous professional entomologists, arachnologists, photographers, etc., volunteering as editors and contributors.
On the other hand, there are numerous idiots there as well...

Syndicate, your spider is P. mira, a light variation. There is much variation in P. mira.
