Paranhas are cool, but around here you gotta watch what you get, or you end up with red bellied pacu, and those suckers are messy and sometimes picky about what they eat. They're hard to get rid of too. We had 8 of them for a while and they got about 6'' then they were too big of a mess, so we got rid of them. We then turned their tank into the iguana home.

No I dont have any snakeheads now and I wish I did. I did not think PA would ban them so fast. I knew maryland and virginia were but did not think PA would. If I found them somewhere I would buy them in a minute. Have you ever kept any snakeheads?

I do not have pirañas, but in a river whent I use to go fishing they are really hard to manage. I use a tongs to take them out of the hook

Yes, is fun... I allways go with boots, because they like human meat too ;)

They got into maryland by people keeping them as pets. And when they got too big they released them in lakes, rivers, ponds. Thats why they are banned a guy release a few in a pond a few years later they found nothing but snakeheads in the pond. When kept as pets they will eat anything in the tank including plecos and catfish or they will just kill them. Even most of the other aggresive fish wont mess with plecos or catfish. Snakeheads have been adapting good been found as far north as Mass.

 Here in Venezuela whe have some similar problem with imported snakes, people buy them and when they do not whant to keep them anymore they let them free in the mountain. People had found really venomous snakes (that whe do not have anti venom) with a lot of ticks in the "Avila National Park" a place where a lot of people goes to make sports.

Aren't snakeheads a big deal in Florida, too?

But then...EVERYTHING is wild in Florida.

The newest I've heard were Nile monitors. They're no joke, they can be pretty nasty animals :p

Yeah FL is one of the states that has alot of snakeheads showing up. I think its interesting when species start showing up in the states that are not native here as long as there not killer bees. Have the nile moniters been showing up near where you live?

Piranhas should be kept in scolls, atleast 10 individuals. Large tank, minimum 700L with a powerful filter. They are messy!
P´s can be very nervous and jumpy in a aquarium, some think they are covards. But this is just because most people keep them wrong. Too few individuals and not enought places in the tank to get shelter - roots, stones etc.

I dont keep any piranhas (use to have them at my former work) but I keep wolffish, Hoplias malabaricus, a large characin from south america (called trahira or similar there). IMO these sp. are much more fun then piranhas - fearless and bold.
