Four days ago I bought about 2 dozen pinheads for my new T slings. I fed the pinheads cheerios, cucumber and apple. For some reason more than half are dead, theres maybe less than a dozen left now. They had ventilation and were kept at about 23-24°C max in my room. Anyone know why this happend and how I could prevent it from happening again?

Thanks.

Bacteria buildup on the apples and cucumber? My lobster roaches stop eating the cucumber after the juices that come out of the cucumber stop being transparent.

Found out today when I was at some reptile store with my bro that crickets need to be kept dry and thats why they die, from humidity. Feed them only dry foods, no fruits or veggies.

They do need a soource of water. i usually take a small pill bottle and jam a wet paper towel in it. The bottle keeps the paper towel from drying out too quickly and keeps everything else in the cage pretty dry.

I've been raising crix on dry cat food and pre-cut salad greens that come in the plastic bags and plastic boxes. I haven't used another water source and I've been using no sub. Just a bowl of moist coco fiber for egg laying. Been working for me.

Hi,
I buy them a thousand at a time. I feed them the dry gut loader, and I put water crystals in a bottle cap. They often live long enough to attain a large size. So yes, I believe keeping them dry is the key.
Also, I read that plenty of hiding places keep them from stressing too. Hence the egg cartons and toilet paper core's.
Jon
PS. avoid paper towels. They like to dookie in it, and It may be a good medium for nematode larvae!
