Pictures for Display: "Things With Stings"
i am my group, scabies ( http://scabies.myfreeforum.org/index.php ) have informational displays at
i would like to have a display of all the dif ways arthropods can envenomate (or chemically hurt you... what exactly would you call what assassins do?)

so far i can think of

Spiders : Fangs, modified chelicerae
Scorpion : Aculeus, modified terminal body segment?
Centipede : Forciples, modified legs
Pseudoscorpion : Claws, modified pedipalps

Assassin bugs : Proboscis, modified mouthparts (injects digestive enzymes, could be a nice like segue into the proper venoms)
Hymenoptera : Stings, modified ovipositer?

any other stingers?

i did think of jellyfish and pneumatocysts... but no one keeps them and we wouldn't have any pics that we control of them

so, i need good pictures of each bug and the business parts of each bug.

i would really like two pictures of each bug we are going to feature

1) whole body shot

2) just the injector, clear and well lit pic of it

i still need good pics of:
Assassin bugs : Proboscis, modified mouthparts (injects digestive enzymes, could be a nice like segue into the proper venoms)
Hymenoptera : Stings, modified ovipositer?

remember, i need a full body shot and a good clear shot of the venom equipment!

here it is so far

if you have shots like i need and are willing to let me use them in my info display please email them to me at cacoseraph@yahoo.com

username/real name copyright credit will be given and i will send you the word doc i generate with the finished product for your own informational display usage

THANKS!

Some of the reef enthusiasts might keep anemones
i think i might pursue that for version 2.0. good idea

ok, Version 1.0 is done :)

thanks to everyone who contributed and submitted pics

if anyone who is not in scabies wants to get the file to use for their own displays email me cacoseraph@yahoo.com to hear the terms (basically just credit scabies and include a link to our forum and you can use it :) )

certain soldier termites have some sort of spray they can shoot out, ants can have a stinger, mosquitoes have there anti-clotting serum they inject you with.

Caco...you can use any wasp pictures I have posted here on AB if you properly cite them.

certain soldier termites have some sort of spray they can shoot out, ants can have a stinger, mosquitoes have there anti-clotting serum they inject you with.
The soldier termites do not actually inject the substance.

Mosquitoes are parasitic and do not use the anti-coagulant to subdue their prey. You could no more classify them as venomous than you could a tapeworm that emits chemicals which elicits the immune response that it uses as food.

Neither of these are what Cacoseraph is looking for.

i *am* thinking of making another display that has different types of chemical defenses, though... so millipedes, termites, etc would be on the menu for that :)

Cool idea. My only critique would be to put all of the images so that they are the same size. It would make it look crisper, add a professional touch to it. Looking forward to 2.0

but probably not, because amblypygids don't have venom

Oh ok, I was under he impression they had venom in their "pincers", but I'm really new to the hobby, and haven't taken much interest in the amblypygids at all...

You might want to look into Brachinus. :)

I think you'd get a kick out of parasitology.
