Some of you have wondered what my set up look like i have had my Pinky for aabout a week and a half no web yet and he hasnt eaten in 5 days just wondering what is going on.

One thing for shure that tank is way too big for that small Avic.You need to put the T into a med Kritter Keeper and stand it on its side that way it will be able to catch its food better.Also use a log or two and stand it up so it can make a tube web.Once it calms down it will start to eat and make a tube web.Hope this helps.

Sure is a cute little thing.

Your tank is kind of bare and open though, she doesn't really have a place to retreat to until she makes her web. You could add some thick silk plants (tall ones), or string a silk vine across the back of the tank near the top. Even a live potted plant might work. I think she may not be settling in because she feels too exposed.

let me ask you something about that cage being to big, do you think a 20gallon long is to big for a 6inch rosea then to, and if thats the case then tell me what you would think if you had to live in a jail cell. common now, i personally think that you should keep any ts in kritter keepers due to they are not big enough, and my rosea uses all of its tank, i mean everytime i look in she is somewhere else....

As I am sure you will get bombarded with, T's for the most part are not freeroaming creatures. Not like a horse in a pasture. It lives in the security of its own small environment. They dont suffer from claustrophobia like people do. Tone down the size of your tanks and you will see the webbed results of a happy T.. if not.. well its your choice. The T will eventually find a place to make itself a home inside the city you supplied it with, and there it will live, waiting patiently for the food that may never come near it. And, since you mentioned jail cells.. the Avics tank is pretty much bare.. rather reminds me of a jail cell. I would take a nice cozy little cottage, all lush and full of greenery over a stark endless prison anyday.

I think once you decrease your tank size, you should definitely see it settle in more and start eating. In a tank that size, it will have trouble catching prey. A good rule of thumb for estimating tank size is 3x the length of your T for by 2x the length of your T for length and width dimensions. For an arboreal T like Avicularia species, you will also want the height to be greater than the floor space as they don't spend much time on the ground (or shouldn't anyway if they are healthy) but need lots of climbing space. So basically if your T is 2" in legspan, you can use a tank that is 6"x4" turned on its side so it has the 6" in height.

That T only looks 3 inches at the most and that tank is 20 gal's????


A 5 gal tank on end is good for most Avics.10 gals work good also for the larger ones.


Now that second pic is much better to house a T that size and we need a molt to be able to tell its sex at least I do becuase I am no good and the other way.

its only a ten gallon in the first pic but i will put my T in the bigger tank when he/she is bigger as long as the one gallon pickle jar is fine but i am worried is there enough room for my T to molt?

We can only guess at the sex of your T is you take a closeup of the underside of the abdomen.

webbed results of a happy t

like i said in the first post on this subject is that i have a 6inch rosie in a 20gallon long tank and i get webs from him all of the time and i have a 2.5-3 inch a burica in a 10gallon aquarium.. they both give me quite elegant webbing and no my spider doesnt wait for food to come to it, i can put 6crix in and within 2-3hrs they are all gone... so it doesnt have to WAIT for food to come it... im sorry but i am a very firm believer in bigger tanks for them...

Arboreals are especially equipped for hunting food. It's fine to keep tarantulas in big cages, but it dosen't work for every individual. Plus, try raising anything under 1" in a tank the same proportions as that 10G is to your 3 inch avic.
