The flies apparently lay eggs on the dead insects in our cages, though other parasitic insect species will lay their eggs on the outside of the host animal. I actually had an outbreak of these today from a single dead roach unnoticed in my death's head roach bin. Here is a video I shot some while back of the maggots ensuing from dead Blaptica dubia roaches. I'm currently eating a salami sandwich, but some of you may wish to put your food down, at least momentarily.
