Another member showed me a video the other day where this guy got bit by a red widow.

Doesn't seem like he learned his lesson just yet.

Edit: Just finished the video. Still wondering why he had to do that

As far as I know Latrodectus bishopi has virtually zero research into the venom. I agree that was a careless maneuver. I understand the goal to educate those that are completely uneducated but at the same time promoting complacency is also not good.

It is a hard line to draw in the sand.

Personally you could not pay me enough to free handle any of the Phoneutria species.

110% agreed.

You don't even need to pay him. He did it for the views.

Surely I did not need to see the spider crawl on his hand to learn about it and observe it. I'm sure he could have done his presentation and made his point clear without touching it.

I suppose to prove that it won't just bite you without provocation he had to handle it.

Still wondering if that was really necessary TBH...

What do you all think? Besides the obvious I mean.

Insane why on earth would anyone handle such a dangerous spider ?? Has this guy have no fear 😧!! 🫠😭 an interesting video either way , that harmless spider was cool. The one earlier in the video , but he doesn’t swap out the wandering spider for it does he ? No ?

Oh he had fear. Didn't you see how badly he was shaking when it was on his arm?! He just lacks SENSE

Lol that would be some funny movie magic if he swapped it out for the bromeliad spider before that shot.

Yeah that’s on the list of species I wouldn’t touch period .but I’ll rewatch a few times see if the one he handles is a wandering spider . They both look almost identical..

Check out the chelicerae for the tell-tale patterning.

(I learned that from his video)

Reminds me of a Reddit thread (r/spiders) where a guy handled a Phoneutria without knowing what it was....

Everyone in the thread commented that they get people who think a bunch of harmless spiders are recluses, and then they get a Phoneutria....

You can tell it is a Phoneutria. I re-watched a couple times myself.

Way too many youtube channels go from decently educational, to horrible, mixing education with misinformation and toying with danger

brave wilderness is the perfect example, horrible stuff

Brave wilderness is bad for sure, as are many others. But a small few are good and educational still.
