Has anyone here had Phoneutria boliviensis since they were slings ? Trying to figure out how hardy they are as slings and what's the survival rate for them to make it to an adult. Thanks
Have not kept them but maybe this would help you at least a bit. Hope someone can give you firsthand accountsHas anyone here had Phoneutria boliviensis since they were slings ? Trying to figure out how hardy they are as slings and what's the survival rate for them to make it to an adult. Thanks
The paper you linked was published before the revalidation of P. depilata and is referring to that species.Have not kept them but maybe this would help you at least a bit.
Thank you so much ! This very helpful...The paper you linked was published before the revalidation of P. depilata and is referring to that species.
@Ferrachi I have personal experience with breeding and raising P. boliviensis. They're possible to raise in captivity but to my experience have a (much?) higher mortality in early instars than other Phoneutria species. I'd expect at least (very optimistic) a loss rate of 50% if you start with 1. instar slings. Be aware that the species is smaller than e.g. P. fera so slings may only have 6mm leg span as 1. instar and will need to be fed with spring tails and D. melanogaster (not all slings accepted fruit flies in 1. instar so having an alternative prey type is a must).
