I'm currently raising two slings for the 1st time. I have an adult female that I got as a sub adult, she was very clearly female. My question is, how soon can you tell what sex the babies will be. My 2 slings are 4th instar currently, but you can see a white stripe and dots on the one, so I'm wondering if that's any indication I might have a male? Or will I have to wait and see how the pedipalps turn out?

4th instar doesn't really count as a sling anymore more of a juvenile, with P. regius you its pretty easy to tell but you cant be 100% until 5th instar, if you attach picture I can help, usually with P. regius the females are either grey brown or orange and the males are black.

Oh... those aren't 4th instar, those look like either 2nd or 3rd, and that point it is basically impossible to tell, you'll just have to wait. But it doesn't really matter, the will both end up as either male or female and there isnt any way to change that :)

Ha ha! Oh, ok, thanks! I got them and was told they were 2nd instar, at least one has molted twice since then, so I wasn't 100% sure.

yeah dont worry, its hard to tell, 4th instar is when they get big and get new colors but they aren't mature yet, for a female 4th and 5th instar look similar but for males on 5th they will get long hairy legs and big pedipalps.

Hello. We see you are having trouble telling the sex in Regals. The secret is to look for the line on their head. White line means male. Tan brown means female. Regallover

Good to know, thanks! The three I have now are my first jumping spiders, so learning as I go! I usually have mantids, lizards, and frogs. We unfortunately can't have tarantulas in my county, so jumping spiders have been a very adorable option.
