I have a jumping spider that I’m fairly certain is a Phidippus audax, but he looks a little… different. He’s got a white band at the section of his abdomen that connects to his cephalothorax, and a white spot on top of his cephalo- oh forget it I’m just gonna say head. He’s got a white spot on his head. His chelicerae also seem to be a bit off. They look… brown? I haven’t been able to get a good look at them though; he’s a pretty tiny male. :)
I have a couple pictures of him, but they aren’t great quality. 12098195-0E08-4DF7-9C61-D64F4688FD0A.jpeg BFBA268E-3601-4D85-BDBA-DD9CD6028DA7.jpeg So now I’ve talked for way too long, my question is; is this normal? I’ve looked at loads of pictures of them and I haven’t found one that looks like him?

Alright, sorry. I’ll try and get some clearer; maybe he’ll make my life easier for once and actually pose. :D

OH MY GOSH THAT LOOKS LIKE HIM! xD
I’ll have to look at a few more pictures, but it’s like somebody took a picture of his brother!
Edit: looks like it may have just been a fluke… that one looked basically just like him, but the rest of the species looks PRETTY DIFFERENT. Thanks for the attempt though! :D

I just looked at the rest of the pictures, and I totally agree! So if someone could properly ID the one I linked, we might have it!

Looks like the pictures of an adult male P.comatus but shot with a poor camera

You can reach out to Sean C (the original bugguide poster) if you still believe that it's wrong

I looked again, and it does look pretty dang close. Thing is… those aren’t native to the area I got him! xD
There is a species I think may be it though; Phidippus otiosus.

from your description and the pictures it sounds a lot like Phiddipus putnami? they are more of a blue color but some are more black
Well, it has the same chelicerae at least! I saw one picture of them that looked pretty similar to my little guy. He’s got these interesting brown ones, instead of the blue or green that I’ve seen in a lot of pictures. Maybe that’s what I should use to id him! xD

Once you get some better pictures, we will probably be able to id it! But that’s the most similar one I could find using the blurry ones.

Get a macro lens feed him and you’ll get a good shot and you can google lens the picture and it’ll tell ya!

Heh heh. Funny story with that. So I tried that, and it gave my Google a stroke. So I tried again and it thought I wanted chipped paint. Then I tried AGAIN, this time specifying what part of the picture, and it thought he was a ufo… xD
