I was doing some herping/inverting this past weekend in South Centralish Florida when I came across this guy. I know pretty much nothing about this branch of inverts, but I also saw hundreds of a similar insects, all copulating, which I'm pretty confident were Two-Striped Walkingsticks (Anisomorpha buprestoides). But yes, any assistance as to a more specific identification of the following insect would be very much appreciated.

Thanks very much,
-Matt

definitely a Anisomorpha buprestoides female. but it's kind of weird to see them without a male in tow. :)

BTW ~ did it spray you?

Neg. No spraying to speak of.

So I take it there's a good bit of color variation among that species?

i promise you'd know if there was any spraying. ;)

and yeah, sometimes they'll be almost totally brown, sometimes they'll be more colorful, like yours.
