I was in petco in Waco the other day and they ahd corn snakes, green and gray tree frogs and common garter snakes for sale. Why is it they can sell species on the black list and I cant?

I'd gather that they probably had someone bring in the animals and they're trying to turn a profit...At least that's what happens up here at the Petco's in Colorado (on occasion anyways)...either that, Or someone is just plain old stupid :)

If it was put in stock before the 1st, they can probably still sell it.
I have no idea, just a thought.

the way it was worded that it is illegal to sell or transport them . so even if they were allowed to sell them you cant take them home lol

Aren't a. avics illegal in florida, yet many pet stores have them? I think it's the same thing. Pet stores don't exactly keep up to date on the laws and the laws aren't always enforced. It's much easier to create a law than it is to enforce one, a fact politicians tend to forget, and the reason they always make more laws to outlaw what already was illegal under another law.

because they're captive bred
there is no distinction beween CB and WC in the law. Also if you think those garter snakes and tree frogs are CB i have some swampland in Arizona to sell you complete with a bridge from london ...
they are almost as CB as the 5" G. rosea they sell lol

I always wanted a ferret and I can't get that in CA....

And awhile back most petstores had rabbits.....not anymore.

My friend had to go all the way to Monterey to a rabbit show just to buy a common petstore rabbit :p

I found out that pure yellow rabbits cost like $200 or something lol. Actually, come to think about it I haven't seen iguanas in the petstore for a long time, I guess it explains!

I think I might move to Europe if it gets much worse (not really cause after I saw HOSTEL....got me paranoid haha)

That's odd. Up here they sell all kinds of cornsnakes, tree frogs, ferrets, rabbits, and I even saw a chinchilla at PetCo.

*shrug* These laws are all pretty arbitrary to me.

LOL I heard the second hostel was even more gruesome.

I just bought 2 cornsnakes too, from Petco actually. They were dirt cheap like 30 bucks for babies. They seem healthy and they eat well (i wish my hognoses did!) haha. But on Long Island they sell everything in pet stores. The one I work at sells ferrets, chinchillas, rabbits... we just got in monkeys too! I thought it was illegal to buy monkeys but I guess if you have 11 grand it's all yours! Now I'm kind of happy I live here :}
