It's illegal, I know, but I've had a mourning dove for 5 years named Gilbert that I rescued as a nestling , and he is just the best thing, it's a shame that you can legally kill these birds and eat them, but if you own a feather or the bird itself it's jail time and a big fine, of course I know you need a permit to hunt them, I just think it's a little contradictory, have any of you have experience with wild birds as pets?

I had some birds hatching outside of my window. I find fallen ones on the ground very often. But most of them die the next day, from what i suspect internal damage. I've had a bird even doe in my hands. When i caught it it seemed like it was chocking or trying to breath. It had a damaged tongue, so i decided to let it go. I saw it land on a fence and when i got close it fell to the ground. It wasn't alive anymore. I'm trying to buy ducklings but my mom fears she will lay eggs and I'll end up as a farmer instead of herp keeper lol. You're lucky to own a bird.

You can get exclusively male or female ducks it's an option on most websites, you can cook and eat the eggs too, as long as they are not fertile

It's against the migratory act to own a feather of any native bird species in the U.S. you can get fined over 1000$ for a owning a feather without a permit

Very nice bird. I remember a few times I found a dove sitting on a curb. You could go up to them and they wouldn't run. You had to think that they had some sort of injury. I actually tried to rehabilitate the birds but ended up sending them to a wildlife rehabilitation.
