Among the many lizards I'm looking for, I'm curious about which skinks make great pets. I'm aware of the Blue Tongued Skink, which is why I'm posting here...
What other skinks make great pets and do you keep any? What about Fire Skinks?

If you are looking for something you can handle, a captive bred blue tongue skink wins hands down. Fire skinks are excellent pets but will be rather squirmy/wiry. If you are ok with just watching/interacting they will be great...though they are shy. If you want something that will be totally cool with riding with you in a shopping bag to school and hanging out next to you as you study on the bench on a warm day, and that can be handed to people with little worry, then thats a tame blue tongue.

Not exactly a handling species because they're, to use dtknow's phrasing, a bit squirmy/wiry but red eye crocodile skinks are amazing to look at. They're basically like little, baby dragons.

Emerald tree skinks are a beautiful green colorful but are known to be skittish and flighty.

I have a fire skink pair that I am absolutely in love with. But, if you're looking for something to handle, I wouldn't recommend them. Mine are squirmy and kind of shy but they are so great to watch and I love the look of their enclosure. In my opinion, they are quite easy to care for and very rewarding skinks. One thing that kind of sucks about them though, is that unless you can find a breeder, most are wild caught individuals.

Have a look at some of my photos of them if you like! http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151000738220363.773544.584055362&type=3

Found out the other day that we have a population of wild skinks here in MI. Been here practically my whole life but never seen one! I knew we had plenty of skanks in MI... but was unaware of the skinks. Hoping to go out this year and find some. I seen a pic of one and they are really quite beautiful. I have been interested in eventually getting a blue tongue, I see the pics of people handling them and they look so chill.

I don't know about the care but I have always liked the look of the Red-Eyed Crocodile Skink.

I Want a blue tongue skink. From what I read they are very intelligent, and can bond with there owner. They can live 16-20 and even into their 30's with nproper care.
