Not a pro.

Keith, Sorry, that's why I said "looks much like". Darker coloration may merely represent individual variation- or could possibly be another species?
Anyway, that's a big ole roach. I use them for feeders fot t's but thus far have only used dubia. Terry

I googled discoid and the roaches all have shorter wings than mine, are much more brown, and the black "face" on discoids towards the top is flat, where mine looks like it has 2 eyebrows. compare them side by side. I dont think its a pure discoid, unless its some sort of discoid x fusca hybrid possibly. Looks like Fusca to me mabye.

mine

pure discoid still hardening

pure fusca

Sorry I did not get back to you on the "other forum" ... ;)

This is a hybrid of Blaberus craniifer and Blaberus fusca. If you have any other roach questions feel free to PM or email me. Roaches are what I do best.

p.s.- the above photo of a 'pure discoid' is not a pure discoid either, but here we see what happens quite commonly- people buy feeder roaches and put them in with others not really knowing if they are mixing them or not, and more and more often contaminated species are showing up. Many of the Blaberus species can interbreed.

Ok, thanks for your help! I actually like the hybrid, not only for the color, but it lived longer than the pure fusca I had that were the same nymph stage as this when I first go them. So the hybrids live longer and I see that as a good trait.

Interesting...someone should look into this and setup some sort of research experiment.

I tried but the female was too old to mate after a year of living. She's still alive after 2 years, just a pet now.

I got her from blaberus.com after ordering some fusca and giganteus.

Old video but here is what the rest looked like (besides pure Giganteus), more brown and these were a tiny bit smaller and lighter than the roach I have now. All from blaberus.com In the video they all look like this.
