Well, many of us has pet names for our little fuzzies - and I was wondering.. Where do you get your tarantula names from?

Apart from Dumpling, my T's have names from the Harry Potter books :D{D

Dumpling is named Dumpling merely because that's what the first spider I ever caught was named. The rest are as follows:

P.Ornata - Fenrir; after Fenrir Greyback, because of, well, it's grey back.
A.Huriana - Ginny; after Ginny Weasley, because she's sorta ginger, stubborn and gorgeous.
A. sp. Amazonas Purple - Lockhart; after Gilderoy Lockhart, because his favorite color is lilac, and the spideys purple.
Avicularia Species - Severus Snape - because I have no idea what kinda species it is, and Snape is sort of mysterious through the books, and we don't fin dout about the true Snape untill the very end :D

-G.rosea : Belle from Beauty and the Beast. If I was sure it was male, I'd have named it Beast, even if it was calm.
-B.albopilosum: Moe, since the common name, Curly Hair, made me think of the 3 Stooges, and I love the name Moe.
-Haplopelma sp: Loki; If I remember correctly, Loki was a mischievous trouble maker from ancient mythology. It's my first OW T, and was quite a handful and frightened me!
-A.chalcodes: Hazel because of the overall brown coloration.
-N.chromatus: Chalk, due to the fact the carapace looks like it's covered in chalky powder lol
-G.pulchra: Initially named Anita, I removed it because it wasn't sitting well with me. I wanna name one Pandora now, and may name the other Pele/Kali, after goddesses that refer to night, sleep, and time.
-B.smithi: Flicker; Red orange knees made me think of a candle light.
-B.vagans: Comet for the red abdomen.

I still have 5 more Ts that need names, and 3 more on the way next week that I have to name. Sad to say I like to pick names that mean something to me, not just random things thrown out there. I guess I "overname" my Ts, but it's more fun that way. ;)

4 G pulchra: females are Shadow, and Eclipse; males are Phantom, and Midnight -- I think they are self explanatory.
I have three more G pulchra, as of yet unsexed, and thus are numbered 005, 006, 007 until I get genders or personalities that shine through.
I also have two GBB, same situation as above.
I usually try to find an adjective that fits the critter and then look it up in a translator to find the word in another language. For instance my cat is Tikus, Indonesian for mouse.

G. pulchripes => Ixchel, after the Mesoamerican goddess.

P. murinus = > Lilitu, after the Mesopotamian demon.

I try to give all my critters fitting, quasi-esoteric mythological names
High Five!! :) i going with chibcha gods and goddesses. ancient mesoamerican people. The people that the el dorado legend came from. I also used to have a black widow named Lilith with the same origin as lilitu.

P. murinus -- Xue (god of the sun)
H. lividum -- Huitaca (wild, crazy drunk goddess)
G. rosea -- Pacha (earth goddess, pachamamma is mother earth)

I've already got like 6 more names all lined up for the next 6 Ts on my wish list. :)
