Hey guys I have a little dog and he seems to have brought home a flea. I want to get rid of them of course but I have now read up on it and there are several approaches which seem to be potentially harmful for my spider.

any of you guys have been there and can share experiences?

You can use oral flea/ tick medications for you dog. Then thoroughly wash bedding and vacuum the house to get rid of any eggs.

My pup gets Simparica monthly, zero issues with the inverts. I could believe topical treatments potentially impacting inverts, but not sure how/why oral meds would do anything.

The topical flea medication that lasts for a month is very scary. It could get on your hands and then onto your T’s enclosures during maintenance, and it’s hard to wash off.
Oral medication probably much better.

My dog (rest her soul) took oral meds for it. Never had any issues with the inverts

When you say topical are you referring to things like spot-on that is being applied to the fur?

Not familiar with that brand but yes, topical is anything applied to their fur or skin. I wouldn't trust collars or anything either though. Just play it safe and give your dog something in pill/chewable form.

Yeah stuff like that. Probably can be used but only if you are extremely careful. Assume that if you touch your dog/cat you have the stuff in your hands for days, unless you wash with soap very thoroughly. And maybe even then you could have some on your clothes or furniture that could get back on your hands if you’re not careful.

That’s the kind of stuff that had me worried. I combed the dog and washed him down, cleaning his favorite spots and washing everything. I did not find any flea excrements or other signs of heavy infestation yet. Taking the little guy to the vet next week to get some professional input on the situation. Cleaning out every room one by one, but I live in a small place with a LOT of stuff, haha. So it’s going to take some effort getting rid of any pests.

Thanks for all the replies.

My dog takes Oral flea treatment. I have over 300 Ts and no problems. Although TBF, he ain't bothered about the Ts, and stays out the spider room most of the time so they don't really share the same space for long periods of time.
