I have always had a problem with a particular pest beetle in my mealworm colonies and I could never figure out what they were (honestly I never really looked) but all this talk about mealworms the last few days has got me curious again. that and noe that its warming up I'm getting more and more of them.

I don't have pictures but they are about 1/16 inch long reddish to coppery brown little buggers that really stink when you squish them. My baby beardeds and dart frogs would grab one and spit it out immediately.

They remind me of the confused flour beetles I used to raise for my dart frogs. Thankfully they have not become a pest throughout the rest of my house and they are nothing more than a nuisance as I have never seen one outside my worm bins but I'd like to figure out a way to get rid of them if I can (or find something that eats them). I read something about pheromone traps but these are pitfall traps and I don't know if they would work in my worm bins.

They could be a close relative, the Red Flour Beetles or Tribolium castaneum. These beetles are known for their unpleasant odor and distaste to most animals, and have a higher hardship toleration than some pest roaches.

I read about them. Could be what they are. Looks like them for sure but then all little reddish brown beetles look alike to me.
