Pervuian Longtail x Hogg Island Boa

Well, I finally got myself a boa. Supposedly, it is a cross between Boa constrictor longicauda and a Hogg Island Boa. I don't have enough good light to take a picture it right now with my crappy webcam. But it is quite pretty. The sides of the snake are a greyish pink, where the pattern is muted a little bit. The top of the snake, pretty much looks like the typical BCI, however, toward the tail, the tops of the bright red splotches have a black and white speckled stripe going through them.

From what I understand about BCL, their colors darken up considerably as they grow. I'm quite interested in seeing what this snake will look like as an adult.

p.s. Its tail is actually quite short compared to the rest of its body. I forgot whether that indicates male or female. I will have to look. And I will definately get a pic up at a later time.

From the sounds of it, Thats an absoloutly gorgeous snake!
I have an albino python and she is about 5 years old now.
I can't wait to see a picture!

OK - Time for some pics.

I have a few shots of the tail saddles. As I stated before, you have the typical red saddles, however on this snake, the portion of the snake has black and white speckles instead of the bright red which is only on the sides. I also included a decent head shot and a semi-decent body shot. I couldn't get the pinkish hue to show up in the pictures though. I'll work on getting some better pics that pick up the pink later.

Yeah, the Hogg Islands are absolutely gorgeous. The reason that I got this instead of the "pure" Hogg Island, was because I was curious to see how the colors would change as this one got larger. I know how Hoggs look when full grown, but I'm not exactly sure about this one. I have my own thoughts on what it will look like, but it will be fun to watch it molt by molt. I will keep a photo diary to show the changes.

p.s. From what I understand about Hoggs, they aren't large at all. Males should probably get about 4' and females about 5' to 6' at the most.

Congratulations BDF,
The little fella looks outstanding. It might get a bit larger than you expect, I've handled a 9' Hogg(female but I have seen males that were nearly as large). Tail length from vent to tip is unreliable in determining the sex of the snake, if you must know... wait until it's at least eight months old(the time period is my opinion and a safety measure to avoid spinal injuries) and take it to a reputable vet to have it probed.

I'm a bit reptile poor at the moment, my only current housemates are George the suriname and Graham the chondro. They keep me busy though and I'm on the lookout for another neonate chondro because you can never have too many.

If I get another boa, I'm definately going to look at the Surinam - or maybe a pure bred longtail.
