I just finished euthanizing my female skeleton (E.murinus). Today I noticed that she had a lump. She just finished molting. The bulge on her abdomen was very visible. Her spinnerets were off to her side (that's how big the bulge was). I very gently placed her in a ziplock bag to more carefully examine her. Upon examination I saw she was losing hemolymph at the site of the bulge. I suspect that it was infected by some type of parasitic animal. Does anyone know if a spider can still be mobile after having an encounter with a tarantula hawk (wasp) or are there or inverts that use tarantulas as a host for the larval stage of their offspring. I know that not much is known about parasites of tarantulas. Any info would be great. If you know of any papers on the subject, I'd really be interested.

how sad

You know that is the worst way of dying. I'm sorry but your E.murinus was a nice murinus. Parasites are the worst and I dunno how to get rid of them. any ways deaths are common with parasites because they get eaten from the inside andhow would you like to loose part of you digestive or even ciculatory system. I dont think it'll survive I'm sorry. I hate parasites though.

Hello!
Start a search on google using the word "entomopathogenic" and you will turn up all sorts of stuff. If you find you need specific info relating to our studies at the Research Institute for Exotic Species Microbiology (see sticky) then you can contact us at bodiskyme@yahoo.com.
