Hey guys I've been thinking about getting into the Pamphobeteus genus. I've got these 2 species as my options. I've seen many pics of the males and they look very similar. Thing is I can't tell if there's a difference between the females. Is there any notable difference between them?

Two species from an absolute mess of a genus. Tons of species in that genus that if you don't have proper ID from the get go would be impossible to properly identify...ever. Because a lot of Pamphobeteus species will be big brown spiders as adults.

Oof... I wonder if they're both actually the same species. Worse, if they are different, I hope no crossbreeding has occurred

It's probably one of the most crossbreed genus at the moment where you can't rely on anything except your genus tag you get from the dealer.

There is only a few species you can be certain in the genus that you will get something described or approved.

Most likely that is antinous, ultramarinus, nigricolor, vespertinus or fortis. - being antinous the most appearence different from others.

Solaris is a good bet, but it's very costy.

Don

I gotta agree that Solaris is stunning and very unique among the Pamphos but yea the price is insane.

I'm beginning to like Antinous as well with their jet black and red setae.

The shop I'm checking out has Machala, Platyomma and Antinous going for the same price. Wonder if Antinous is worth more than Machala 🤔

really hard to say, i have sadly never got the chance to compare them side by side
however if you look into it both become basically black with age, fading to brown as the next molt approaches

i wouldnt read anything into the price, you pay more for the name than any actual differences in care or enjoyment of keping them

Well as a Pamphobeteus owner I'd recommend you antinous since you'll have revised species with a unique color. Since the males are blue apart from the other species in genus. And the female has blue coloration as well for a long time. As well they are most likely in top 5 biggest tarantulas out there hitting 10". I bet only Theraphosa and Lasiodora outgrow it.

Other species such as machala female loses all coloration beside black / brown before hitting 5". And they would go for about 8" mark.

I see. I've heard that Antinous get a bit bigger than the other Pamphos but apparently it's the Big Black while the shop has Steely blue leg

Lol you read my mind! I was hoping to get the Antinous since I was aiming to get big size Ts. Antinous definitely fits the bill.

Thanks for all the info guys!! 😁👍👍
