I am about to buy a paint brush to try to calm down my Ts when interacting with them. my question is how come a paint brush "soothes" them and draws them out? could be the bristles on the brush or the textures or something? what size paint brush does everyone use small? big? can I see a pictures of some? please & thank you.

 Where did you hear it "soothes" them?

All you are doing with a paintbrush or anything similar is letting them know you are not prey or predator. They adapt after that and start to let down their guard some. And sometimes they just think you are out to get them and they stay in a pissy mood.
I just tap mine on the abdomen with my tweezers. That one tap lets me know what kind of mood they are in. Tapping them with a pencil is just as effective. I don't think you need to buy a paintbrush it has no special powers, but if you want to why not I guess.

One tip, make sure they are well fed b4 you try to urge them onto your hand. Secondly, not all T's want to be handled, learn to read their moods.

I bought a thin long 10in paint brush from the local hardware store. It looks like an artist brush. Sorry, don't have a pic lying around though.
My Versi Sling attacked the brissels the other day when I was trying to pry it out. So doesn't matter what you use, if a T isn't happy it will attack.
A long paint brush in my opinion just helps not to harm the T, but if you touch them in the right places, it doesn't matter what you use.

A paintbrush is helpful because it is the opposite of a sharp metal object.

Hes not talking about a regular paintbrush, hes talking about THE paintbrush. The kind you buy and it says "soothes and relieves tarantulas"... geeze people! :liar:

Anyways, ditto to the above posts however i like the idea of using a paintbrush over my tongs or tweezers because i feel as though if the tarantula tries to bite something metal it would have a higher risk of damaging the fangs. Where you still have that risk with a paint brush but i think to a lesser extent. Just a personal preference.

To coax a T out I tear a piece of paper lengthwise and fold it a couple times.
With the paper you could also bend it for the hard to reach places.
I have never had a problem with it yet.

The only things that are allowed to touch my spiders are dirt, food, money, and very attractive spiders of the opposite sex.

When my rosie is resting on my hand, I can stroke her abdomen with my paint brush and she lifts her abdomen slightly for a little more effect. Not sure if she likes it but it doesn't seem to bother her since she stays put and doesn't try to get away from it.

I bought a high dollar artists paintbrush that was on sale. It's great for sweeping off coco fiber from rocks and stuff and flipping an occasional crik out of the water bowl. It has a really long handle bout 18 inches, but I've never really messed with any T's with it.

I do have paint brushes but I have only used it once when my N chromatus had part of it's abdomen still stuck after a molt. I gently brushed it off.
worked great for that.
