I have a mature female and I've noticed recently that her abdomen is turning green. Has anyone run into this before? Know what it means?
She was mature when I found her and I've had her for about 1.8 years. She has never molted with me. She has been refusing food in the last few weeks and hasn't eaten, but that is normal for her. Sometimes she has gone over a month without a meal 🙄
Thanks!

I'm in no way an expert, but from what it looks like it seems that may actually be a bald spot, which I believe is a sign of pre-molt. I'm not sure why it appears to be greenish-yellow in color, but my guess is that the lack of hair is just revealing the real color of her exoskeleton?

On a separate note, do you know if it is normal for P. undatus to go so long without eating?? I actually just posted about my new girl, who hasn't eaten since I got her a month ago.

Hmm good idea! She is probably almost 3 so I doubt she is going to molt but I don't know how old she was exactly when I got her.
Ugh yes, mine has gone maybe 1.5-2 months without eating. I had her in a larger enclosure and she had several phantom egg sags she was protecting. I moved her into a smaller enclosure and I see her more often and she has eaten better since. But she would go weeks and weeks without a meal.

Okay, good to know! Was she a mature, wild-caught when you got her? I'm wondering if they're just used to long wait times between meals and they can't help it.

She was smaller than she is now, but Ive never seen her molt before. She is wild caught, I found her in my bedroom 🤣 she was pretty skinny and dehydrated.
I do know of someone else on here who has a P. undatus female that took almost a year to molt so maybe that's what is going on. It would explain why she's refusing food too.
I'm afraid she's getting older but maybe she's got another six months left in her, we'll see.
I mainly keep regals and they are my favorite but Elu has a special place near and dear to me. She was my first jumper lol

Shes obviously not going to molt.

She may be discolored due to being gravid with infertile eggs, or it might just be a natural color change from old age. sometimes they do change color a bit eventually, though usually its a loss of color, not a gain.

They do blend in to bark, but i will be honest, out of hundreds of tans, i dont think ive ever seen green. But the young do have green coloration, when slings. Interesting and i hope that its just a cosmetic change!

OP, if she doesnt eat (yes, it is normal for tans to be picky/not eat often!) you can mix white sugar into water until it dissolves, soak a qtip, and offer it to her mouth directly. she will probably enjoy it and it will help her stay energized for if she does want to hunt.

It still looks like a bald-patch to me, is hair-loss possibly a symptom of old age or being gravid?

Yes it seems she is just discolored due to age and scale loss. You can see some scales missing from her head too.. They look a little green for some species by default, but seems to be more green when “pregnant”. Maybe due to the hue of the eggs? And she’s 3? Impressive! Is this a long lived species? It took mine a year just to reach maturity. And she is showing so signs of age. At 1.5 years

She's never molted with me and had laid three false egg sacs with me since I've had her 1.9 years ago, she was about full grown so I'm guessing somewhere around 8 mos to 1 year old when I got her.
Thanks for the ideas!
She has not been eating in a month, I know she's usually picky but she has jumped on a few crickets but can't seem to latch down on her prey and is scared of it. Not sure what to do and why that's happening but I know she's an old gal

because her skin is black. if it was scale loss, she would have black shiny patches, with her plain exoskeleton showing.
any other color is not hair missing, as it would show black and smooth

I always thought that jumping spiders show a bit of their patterns on their abdomens after scale loss. So what I’m seeing is just scales turning green? And they look flat?

mild scale loss can show their pattern, but itll always be the base color of the scales on top, like how the light grey/tan becomes dark brown. it will NEVER show a color color like blue green or pink or something. but if there is actually an injury usually it goes all the way down to the raw exo which is black
