First time I have seen more tha one P.rufilata out at a time.
There are 6 here so seeing 4 is good going.
They are normally all huddled behind the cork log but it is late at night.

I got the 6 as slings for £35 posted ....£5 each.......dont know what that is in US dollars.
Can't understand why they are so expensive over your side of the pond, they are all captive bred by my fellow forum members over here.......what's the reason ?
These babies are going to get very BIG too

I bought them as tiny slings.....I mean tiny......about 5 or 6 months ago.
They started off like this....pics underneath.....the jar is about 7" high.
They are sooo fast.

That's cheaper than you can get ANY pokie here in the states. The biggest problem is that rufilata is still rather rare. I've only seen slings on dealer's lists.

Pete (poxicator) is a well known spider guy over here and he bred them and then limited their sale to 5 or 6 per person.I was lucky and had 6.
I am sure he did this so they could spread around and a lot of people would own and breed them.I know they are from the same sac but what can you do ?
Demand well out stripped supply by the way.I am sure we were talking 100 + as well.
Hopefully within the next year or so......we should have lots of these beauties for sale......which will help the hobby a lot more than them just going to dealers.
This is where forums can come into their own in my opinion.

Yeah, I've gotten some good deals on T's from hobbyists on these boards. It's clear that some people have no interest in money and only want species to become more available to hobbyists. I'm picking up a female rufi soon, and hopefully within the next year or so will get a sac.

Good on you....you can then spread this beautiful species around :)
It's so true what you said,I would never dream of selling any animal for profit....just to cover my costs so I don't lose but more so to give happiness to the person who is acquiring the animal and hopefully to get more into the hobby.
I am so glad there are lots of people like us around.....
I think our hobby is doing very well :)
Paul
ps....I don't just handle naughty stuff and argue......I do love our hobby....lol

Coming on well there Paul
I seem to have lost some from my community which is rather weird as they're not normally known for cannabilism. Perhaps smaller groups are best but I've had lots of success with large groups too. Strange
When they finally all come out for a group shot I'll post it on here but for now here's a vid from earlier

I've not experienced cannibalism in a ruffy community, however I have experienced fatalities seemingly due to fighting. Before I split the community up to sell, it seemed that only 2 live females were present. One larger female, and one very small. The rest were all male.

Interestingly enough, all of the dead spiders were female.

I'll have to keep an eye on my ones then Dan.They are still young so it may be a while before I witness any trouble.
With my other fasciata communes,it was always a male that matured first that would normally bully the rest.Always had to pull it to keep the peace....until the next one matured anyway, then he had to go too.

Great communal, Paul. I read somewhere that P. rufilata aren't communal? Don't ask me where I read that because it was quite some time ago and I don't remember.

I'm also curious, what do rufis usually go for in the states? We got ours as a .75" sling for $25CAN.

Yea I'm not sure Dan if its cannabilism or fighting but there's definitely no longer 15 in there.

Here's a couple of pix from my community of 3, over a year ago, which all turned out to be male and become the parents of Paul's slings :)
