P. Metallica sling hasn’t molted in 6 months

Hello all,

As you can tell from the title, I have a 1-1.5” P. Metallica sling that has not molted in over 6 months. I’m not really worried at all that it hasn’t molted yet, but I would like to know if anyone else has had this happen with their Metallica as a sling. My temps are around room temperature (75 F) and my other pokie species seem to be molting regularly/growing fine, so I’m also curious as to what the reason could possibly be for it not molting. If any of you guys have any insight on this, it would be great!

pics of the enclosure may help.

At that size I would expect molts every 2-3 months.

At 1-1.5" leg span, 2-3 months may even be long depending on feeding and temperature. I received my P. metallica as a sling on Nov 22, probably a little over 1" DLS, and it's moulted twice.

How often do you check on them? Is it possible you've missed a moult?

I check on my tarantula multiples times per day and keep track of when they molt. I recently did a rehouse on the P. Metallica and searched through the entire enclosure (dirt and all) and found nothing. :/

Well it was the enclosure i asked for a pic of, not the t....lol

So are you saying its not in there??? That would explain not eating...lol.

In the future, save the cork tubes for the adults...they only making monitoring a sling more difficult. But not a huge deal obviously.

But I would not house it like that per say. They need more room and better ventilation, vials are less than ideal.

Something along the lines of a 32 oz deli cup is much better at 1.5"
you can monitor it better, provide better ventilation, more room, and you can add a water dish.

Sorry, I don't know why I posted that pic saying the pic was of the spider, long day lol

But yeah, that's the enclosure and yes it is in there. I don't think the lack of molting is because it's not eating, I've seen it catch and eat food multiple multiple times and have done that until I thought it was satiated. I suppose I could try feeding it again to see if that's not the case?

Also, it's in a ziploc container that's comparable in size to a 32 oz deli cup with many ventilation holes

But the way you have is way too cramped...no room for much movement and no room for a water dish.
I think this might be a little beside the point of the thread, but I believe it has plenty of room for its size (inside and outside of the cork bark, under the leaves, and the entire the sides of the enclosure). For some of my slings at around 1" I don't provide water dishes, and have had success doing so. I suppose I could find a water dish that is suitable for this enclosure, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary.

And that's how you manage to not get any more responses... If you know everything then why do you ask a question?

So you're curious as to why your T hasn't moulted and then when told by one of the more experienced keepers on these forums that the enclosure is too cramped, you say that it's beside the point . . . riiiight. If you don't want advice, why ask questions?

I never claimed to know everything. Can I not disagree with what he said?
Of course you can. You can be snarky all you want. All I said was that it's not going to get you anywhere. It's just going to get you a lot of dislikes and no answers because people don't like to wreck their brains trying to come up with something just to hear:

Your answer is useless (i.e. "besides the point") and wrong.

I'm free to disagree with him, no matter how much experience he has. Just because I disagree doesn't mean that I don't want or care for advice - the P. Metallica was in a larger enclosure than that one for months before I rehoused it into the one a linked previously. It seemed clear to me that the issue wasn't that the enclosure is too cramped, which I still believe it's not.

I said what I said. It seemed clear to me that the issue wasn't that the enclosure is too cramped, which is why I disagreed and believed it to be irrelevant. At the end of the day, I won't lose any sleep because of dislikes or lack on answers on a internet tarantula forum.
