Im getting my first Pokie (ordering today), a P. Metallica. For now it will be in a 40 dramm vial but eventually a nicely setup exoterra. I want to design the exoterra to look similar to the natural habitat it would live in. Does anyone have any pictures of their natural habitat (they dont need to be in it, just the general area)

The best I could say is since pokies come from areas like Sri Lanka/India in tropical rainforests, and I am not saying they all do, I would research the country they are from and find out what type of plants are native and if they can be purchased for terrarium use. They like high humidity but with lots of airflow. Deep peat and sand mixed with vermiculite will retain moisture while live plants will help keep the humidity higher where good airflow is a requirement. I am not saying everyone keeps thier pokes' in this environment but a little google searching can turn up good info. on where they are generally from, what thier range is, and what type on evironment naturally occurs there. I myself have a P. metallica as well as other pokes that are slings and will be looking into creating the best possbile environments I can for them. For now I keep them in tall, clear, deli cups with a large piece of cork bark to provide good hiding places. The cork bark is easy on the eyes and very resistant to mold. Good luck.

I belive they are from Gooty, India. That is close to Ananthapur. Maybe you can find pictures of the area on the web.

I have pictures of the mettalica site but they are not mine so i cannot post them.

One picture shows a lush green habitat, the other just a bunch of dried trees and scrub.

This species comes from an area which has distinct wet and dry seasons so i would forget about live plants in the container, you would only have to replace them after they had the dry season.

I research the areas the species are originally from when I purchase any T. It gives you a good idea on the kind of set up that would be beneficial.

Yea but when you search for the areas they are known from do you get the right area?

Gooty is the known area for mettalica and they are not found anywhere near Gooty,

A seemani (especially recently) are not imported from Costa Rica, but mostly from Nicuragua or Honduras or Guatamala, which is also why there appears to be different species or regional colour forms.
