Hi guys. I was just curious. What do you folks do when you have an over abundance of feeder bugs or isopods?

I was thinking about getting lateralis roaches for my Ts. I currently have some dubia, but I don't like that they burrow. I wanna see my T pounce! I'm afraid that somewhere down the road the faster growing lateralis might explode, and then I'll have too many!

Same with isopods. I've been considering getting an avic. T. Isopods to keep the enclosure cleaner!

Thanks in advance! You're all great!:}

You can sell the surplus here. Alot of buyers for the essential roach and isopod.

It may sound cruel, however, all colonies have limits, this is factored by what temprature you keep them, how much you feed them, and how big the box is, Smaller box less food less heat means less reproduction in the specimens

exactly....i keep my crickets a lil bit lower than their "reproductive heat range" and they grow/eat but dont reproduce... so i can keep the numbers down

I thought about the same thing. I was thinking about selling, feeding off females, removing heat, reduce food, and getting more Ts :)

YEA buy more T's ! roflmao lateralis are very prolific when given the chance. Our colony doubled in about four months. Not all bad though, now i have all sizes to feed our array of T's. :) But i feed the males off. Never seem to put a dent in the population ! Oh well......

I hear a lot of the common feeders are quite tasty, some having a nutty flavor. Here's a recipe if you wind up with a surplus:

Stir Fried Cockroach

Materials:

4-5 Cockroaches (recently frozen)

1 Onion (~4 oz)

1 Red Pepper (~4 oz)

1 Green Pepper (~4oz)

Salt (1 TBS)

MSG (2 TBS) (white crystalline compound used as a food additive to enhance flavor; often used in Chinese cooking)

Corn Starch (1 TBS)

Cooking Oil (4 TBS)

White Rice (bag)

Steps:

1. Remove and discard the solid wing covering flaps and all legs of the cockroach.

2. Put the whole cockroach into a pot of boiling oil quickly fry for 15 seconds.

3. Heat up a wok until hot. Add 4 spoons of oil and put all vegetables into it to stir fry for 3 minutes.

4. Put the half fried cockroach in to the wok and add salt, MSG, and corn starch.

Serve on or with a bed of white rice.
