Not caring for how dubia play dead, I was looking for an alternative for some of my larger species. Bingo! really like how these guys run around like crazy, and are meatier than dubia. they do have a more pronounced odor, but I find it smells like garlic. which I like!

Why not have the best of both worlds? I find the orange head nymphs more difficult to pick up out of the bin with my tongs than B. dubia because they are thicker, rounder-bodied and harder-shelled. They also have a tendency to burrow quickly in certain substrates. My reptiles don't seem to care one way or the other. I like to serve up the roach buffet most of the time (culling excess from various tanks of roach species).

I have a colony of these going also. Might sound grim, but I usually just crush the head to prevent burrowing, then drop it in front of the T. The roach will still kick for hours. Sad part is I actually feel bad feeding these... They almost seem to have a collective personality.
