Just caught one of these guys here in my yard and wanted to show you, don't know if there's any Ophiodes species in the US or Europe, they're pretty common over here. When I was cleaning the yard before moving to this house I found a bunch of them. This afternoon I went to look for one to keep to myself and in about 5 min I found this one.
It is knows here as 'glass snake', it's not actually a snake, it's a lizard with no legs. It's common name comes from the fact that it can lose it's tail the same way a gecko can. In one of the pictures you can see it's vestigial (spell?) legs.
Here some pictures, they're not very good, I took them with my cellphone.
ps. I was searching for more information here and it may be O. fragilis, and not O. striatus.
