Supper cute movie thanks for sharing...

But... They have a beetle larvae as an example of Annelida, and also it says Onychophoras arn't segmented like Annelida. Velvet worms are segmented, but they don't have septa like Annelids.

Am I right? Sorry I am such a lame-o. I bought shirts from Old Navy and was so dissapointed to find Cicada images listed as gypsy moths and a Viseroy labeled "Monach" but then they had a Genus name listed as one for a Painted Lady. Grrr! But they were only 5 bucks so I bought them anyway. :)

to be honest, i don't know how to classify an Onychophora and I only know a little about Annelida. I know I know, I should have payed more attention in biology class.

can anyone give me a little information on the classification of onychophora and annelida? like onychophora and annelida 101? please?

Uh... from what I learned this semester..

A common ancestor divided into Annelids and Ancestor A

Ancestor A then divided into Onychophora and Arthropoda.

Onychophora used to be called Annelids because they were segmented wormy things
Then they were called Arthropods

What a big mess, but how they are considered maybe a sister group to the Arthropods, I think.

They talk about the ancestor of Arthropods(Arachnids, Insects etc...) being like a segmented Annelid type worm with appendages with each segment, and they are highly modified in the Arthropods. Like, 6 to 10 segments forming an insect head? Loss or modification of limbs etc...

So for awhile they were thought to be the link between Annelid and Arthropod, but it is more likely that they came from a segmented annelid-LIKE ancestor that the Insects also were related to.

Does that make sense? I am not entirely sure, but that is what I got out of my recent classes. They share many characteristics with Annelids and Arthropods:
segmented body, dorsal heart, ventral never cord with ganglia,

Oh, and like Arthropods: They molt, have trachea, and a hemocoel

Annelids are like clam worms, Earth worms and leeches, basically segmented worms. They can be hermaphrodites or not, they have a lot of different ecologies, burrowers, ecto parasites and predators.

Onychophora, the velvet worms are a less diverse group. Mainly predators, I believe.

They both have the same rank:
Phylum Annedlia and Phylum Onychophora

Cool, i think that i got the general idea of what you are talking about, but i am going to see if i can find that 100 lbs biology textbook that i bought a few semester ago and read up on this stuff for more detail. thanks
