Well, as you all know I have 4 puppies that are 3 weeks old. Well I left my son alone with them while I took a shower (I know, bad bad) he's never attemped to pick them up before. But this time he says he put him on the couch and he fell off :( And now he's having trouble breathing and he's drooling a bit and his tongue is sticking out, and he's not wanting to eat. He's a little active, but I just know something is wrong. Tomorrow my sister is going to take me on her lunch break to the vet to get him checked out. I will be up all night with him, I will not sleep knowing he's like this.

Wish me luck, I hope there's nothing seriously wrong. I should have put them in the bathroom and locked the door while I was away, argh! :8o

Edit: Sorry, ment to put this in Not so Spineless, the new changes have gotten me mixed up.

Awww, sorry Crystal!! My son plaayed "dancing kitty" with some of my kittens once. He'd hold them up and shake them side-to-side. He knew he wasn't allowed to touch them, but never learned his lesson till he broke one's neck. :(

Don't feel bad, it happens.

I was holding him for a little bit, and when I got up to go put him back, he started coughing. Just now he was screaming really loud when his mother got out of the box, I think he may have been trying to nurse, but he's now huddled in the corner panting/sleeping while the others are playing around him. Im bawling my eyes out right now, he is one of my favorites. :(

Here he is, this was taken about a week ago

That's awful. I'm sorry to hear about your pup.

I hope he just got a little disoriented, and that it's nothing major. Did your son see him fall? Anything that pertains to how he fell, will really help the vet look for problems.

Puppies are like kids in that they are not quite as fragile as we think, and I sincerely hope that's the case here.

All the best for you and your puppy.

Omg...

I feel for you. I had a doxie puppy once that fell off the bed. She had trouble breathing and found out she broke a couple ribs that were pushing against her lungs. Surgery and some TLC brought her back from the brink.I hope this isn't what happened to your little puppy. Keep us informed.

Thanks everyone.
Greg, was your puppy weezing and couging? What about drooling?
He made it through the night. I went to see if the vet was open last night, but they were closed. My sister and I will be taking him in today to see whats wrong. Poor little guy, I had to comfort him all through the night, he kept screaming really loud, and I bet he's hungry. Mommy wont have anything to do with him right now, though she did help him urinate.
*sigh* sad lesson to learn.

Ill keep you all posted.

Well, im back from the vets. He says it looks like he was squeezed or rolled on, and he's got an internal hernia, his organs are pushed up under his rib cage, causing pressure on his lungs. He's not suffering, its just hard to breathe, which is uncomfortable. The vet says surgery for a small dog like this wouldnt be recommended, so he says I need to suppliment feed him for now, and when he's bigger we can operate if it hasnt fixed itself. Odds are ill wind up keeping this pup, b/c I cant sell it, since the vet thinks its long-term.

Well, it could be worse, he could have had to been put to sleep. But im gonna give this guy a good shot.
Gotta go feed him now, ill update later.

Even though he's still in a bit of pain, that is very good news. Take good care of him, and keep us updated.

Any update on how he's doing? The poor thing. It wasn't your fault though, nor would I blame your son. Like MizM said; these things just happen.

well he's sleeping right now, im getting ready to feed him. I read that report, and some others, and they all suggest surgery to fix the problem, but the vet says he's too young. So I dunno, ill do my best. Im keeping him elevated since I read that can help to lower the abdomenal contents back into place. He has no problem with that, he's learned already to keep his head up high to breathe, though he's having such a hard time breathing. Short little cycles of quick breaths, poor thing :(

Ill update later.

Thanks everyone

Puppy...

Thanks for the update. I was thinking about your puppy, as I have a soft spot for animals enduring any kind of suffering.
I was going to say that some dogs can have asthma, or can have an intestinal blockage causing symtoms like your puppy.
Gravity should push his organs back down. Give him TLC and keep his front end elevated. My support with with you.
Greg :)

Big Update!!!

Well, I just woke up from a rather LONG nap, lol. The little guy was in with his siblings. I woke up and let mommy in, she went to feed them right away, I didnt even know the door was cracked. But anyway, I went to check on the little guy, and he's fighting his way to mom as quickly as possible, like he was normal again!!!! :D He's sucking and sucking as much as he can, LOL. He's doing great!!!
I think this is a BIG plus for him, if he can nurse, then he should be A-OK :D
Im still taking him with me though b/c I dont want to be gone and have him relaps into not eating again. But YAY! Thanks for the warm wishes guys, it's working!!

;)
